This is going to be a hard review to write. It would have been better as a novella, because it dragged and seemed at times nothing was happening except pages and pages of just dialogue.There are a few twists at the end, we do get HEA, no cliffhanger, some sadness, but the author does have secondary character's who added a lot of humor and that was enjoyable.
There is two lovemaking scenes, outside of marriage and very mildly described and mildly passionate. I am not going into the blurb as many have explained it better than myself, just what you may discover reading it. (ljb)

The characters had different personalities but all wanted to survive cruel tines and help one another. I would definitely recommend this book to any one who likes historical romance and action. Thoroughly enjoyed this author''s story. I will be be reading her other books.
Five stars because of the characters and their loyalties to their families. I loved the chapters and how two people can find love and how they evolved into something great and finding lost loved ones.
As always Allison has written a tail to capture the imagination and as always wonderful detail of lifestyle of the time and the process of producing all the necessary foods and tools to servive for those not so wealthy.
I particularly like the "Authors notes" giving a history surrounding the story.
I have read all of Allisons books and have loved them all .This one was the best . I really felt like I was there. I grew so attached to the characters .They are so real. I hated to see it come to an end. I actually miss them. I cant wait for her next book and hope they will make an appearance.
Adair is searching for his family in the Highlands of Scotland. If that weren't mystery enough, he's beaten and left at the home of Keila, a healer of sorts who's used to taking in sick and injured strangers. Ms. Butler's writing is still up for the task. I appreciate the historical backdrop she researches and her excellent character development. A great read!
Adair Loveable,strong,kind & goes after what he wants & is not afraid of anyone. In searching for his long lost father the person he finds is not what he is cracked up to be & parts ways with him. When he meets Keila, the love of his life, he does not understand why she is so attached to the Drummin House,however, in the end she comes to her senses & realizes she wants the braw Lowlander more than the house. The character of Rory is so loveable even though he has a slight case of demensia as witnessed by the 20yr care of Janet who is not his spouse. Moira pretends to be gruff & very protective of Keila but in the end her barrier is broken down by her love for Adair & the ending was what I anticipated it to be Very Happy".
I think you should write another book following the exploits as to what happens once they get settled into the Lowlands & the father he did not want.

Here is another wonderful story by Allison Butler. It's about thinking that something is very important to you but realize that it is not as important as someone you love. I have read all of the stories in this series as well as the rest of the stories that she has written. I hope you will enjoy reading this book as much as I did.
